When Sami started his second year at university, he decided that he wanted to do more than simply attend classes and complete assignments. He wanted an adventure that would challenge him and help him develop new skills.
One morning, Sami noticed an announcement about a university competition. A committee was looking for students to develop an idea that could improve life on campus. The winning team would receive money to turn its idea into a real project.
At first, Sami did not think he had much of a chance. He was a bright student, but he had never participated in a competition before. His friend Khalid encouraged him to attempt it anyway. “You don't have to win,” Khalid said. “You just have to learn something from the experience.”
Sami formed a team with three other students. Their idea was simple: create an app that would help students find empty study rooms around campus. The team spent several weeks developing their idea. They interviewed students, collected information, and prepared a presentation.
On the day of the competition, Sami was extremely nervous. One team gave an excellent presentation before his group, and Sami was certain that his team would face defeat. However, when it was his turn to speak, he forgot about the other teams and focused on explaining his idea clearly.
To his surprise, Sami's team won second place. More importantly, one of the judges worked for a technology company and was impressed by Sami's work. A few weeks later, the company offered to employ Sami as a part-time assistant. The manager also decided to appoint him to a small team working on educational applications.
Sami did not win first place, but the experience changed the direction of his university life. He realized that success does not always mean finishing first. Sometimes, simply having the courage to try can lead to opportunities you never expected.
